Birthstone for June - Pearl

The colour of pearls varies from milky white to black.

Pearls have been used as jewellery for centuries. They were very popular during the Roman Empire and Tudor England.

Real pearls are produced by nature inside molluscs, while cultured pearls, although still real pearls, are produced with human intervention. The vast majority of pearls now used in jewellery are cultured pearls.

The June birthstone is associated with properties such as loyalty, purity and faithfulness.

The healing properties of the pearl gemstone are believed to be an aid to stomach problems, heart problems and ulcers.
